Feelings can transport us to a state of great joy, and they can also be the source of a lot of chaos, destruction, and illness. Too often as human beings, we don’t have enough awareness of our feelings. Each time we ignore our feelings, we open the door to distortions and destruction as we act out in various ways. We may become irritable, passive-aggressive, or we may simply lack integrity. Each time we ignore our feelings, we are not authentic; and from there, our road to happiness will be bumpy and full of scars. Each time we ignore our feelings, we ignore who we are.
The tendency to ignore our feelings shows how much self-rejection we carry. From there, it is going to be impossible to create inner peace. Every family has a unique blueprint of emotions; the ones that are acceptable and the ones that are forbidden. Every generation’s responsibility is to raise the level of consciousness of our feelings so that we can respect each other’s and heal at a deeper level.
When I look at my 35 years of practice, I witness a great lack of awareness of or a resistance to explore one’s feelings. I have seen too many diagnosed with depression without exploring the anger beneath it that sucks the energy. I have witnessed too many overachievers that could not connect to their anxiety or too many agitated clients who were afraid of feeling depressed.
What I know is that most of you look for more spirituality in your lives. It starts with your feelings. If you bypass your feelings, you can’t be true to yourself. Your truth is the foundation for your spirituality.
Dismissing your emotions limits your power of self-expression. When you are not afraid to connect to the wide range of emotions available to all of us, you are free. Notice the emotion you are avoiding the most in your life and the price you pay for it.
With much love,
