When everything falls apart, when our life becomes meaningless, there is one great medicine: service.
Service brings flexibility to our hearts and mind. If we serve with an attitude of devotion and purity, we will break old patterns anchored in our subconscious and unconscious mind. Without the spirit of service in our lives we isolate and create a frozen view of our inner and outer landscape.
Like everything, it is not what we do or who we do it for, it is how we do it. Developing our fluidity without losing our identity, stretching ourselves and reaching out without being injured, and opening up beyond what we thought we could, are parts of many gifts service can bring. The formula is simple, it is always a win-win: when I serve it serves me.
We don’t necessarily need to be part of an organization to serve; service is a mindset we can express towards our plants, our pets, ourselves, and others. This is an antidote to depression, anxiety, and addiction. Will you join me in this daily practice?
