Resting is not promoted in our culture. We often rest when it is too late. What if we decide to rest before we get tired or sick?

The practice of resting is challenging for the thinking mind.

The practice of resting is challenging for the thinking mind. In this practice, we are not asking the mind to disappear, we are asking the mind to shift. The mind is very flexible; its plasticity goes beyond what we can comprehend. Yet, the mind believes that resting opens the door to death or dullness. What if we support the mind to question and rest at the same time? We would then teach the mind a new way of learning and thinking that is not attached to an end result but is open to experience. Any attachment to a solution or an answer prevents true thinking.

In a culture where we have lost our ability to think, where we believe fast or more has more value than slow or less, we have created the many diseases that are growing up in this country: anxiety, depression, sleeplessness, addiction, and ADHD, to name a few. If every disease starts in the mind, then let’s choose the practice of resting while questioning; we will have more opportunities to stay healthy.
