Many spiritual traditions have silence as a practice in their toolbox. Silence can be experienced in many ways; and here is my invitation: practice silence between you and you. The practice I am suggesting does not ask for you to be in a fixed state of “no thought”; It invites you to be silent in your relationship with everything: your thoughts, a person, nature, the traffic, an event, etc.
When you spend time with yourself, in silence, your ordinary linear mind will try to distract you and pull you into many topics: the past, the future, work, money, children, etc. When you choose to be silent with your thoughts, you hear a lot of noise. Staying with your dissonance is the practice.
Silence is in constant motion. It teaches us to create space with every form of relationships we are in. From there, everything is possible. When we are not attached to something – either by liking it or rejecting it, we are free to show up moment to moment.
