Silence

Opening our life to silence gives us an opportunity to shift our inner wiring. By choosing to not be entangled by our thinking mind, we can naturally change our internal ecosystem. When we turn toward silence, we taste life at a different level: our senses are more alive. Silence opens the door to transformation.

In the Sikh tradition, two hours or so before sunrise, it is recommended to have our spiritual practice. When the sun is at an angle of 30 degrees below the horizon, there is a unique stillness and a quiet opportunity to meditate and access the silence of everything.

In many traditions, food was meant to be eaten in silence as the physical body requires this spacious quality to support the digestive process. Once the meal was complete, conversations were welcomed.

If silence is not a comfortable state for you, be curious and notice your fears. Like every state of being, silence can be light or heavy, threatening or peaceful. Yet, without silence as a foundation, our connection to one another is limited. When we can be in silence, we are not led by the need to be seen, heard, approved, or accepted. It is freeing, and it brings everything to simplicity.

Invite silence in your life if you want to be at peace with yourself and your surroundings.
