Embracing impermanence is not a small task. Our untrained thinking mind keeps running from one impulse to another and likes to decide when it wants impermanence and when it doesn’t. Often, we may think that impermanence limits us; in fact, it expands us.
When we choose to welcome impermanence, we can access the essence of everything. This applies very well to our physical body. When we embrace our physical body, we experience our infinite self.
There is a distinction between unpredictability and impermanence. The first concept creates turmoil, the second is anchored in the laws of nature.
The experience of impermanence may open us up to a new level of presence and a deeper capacity to appreciate what is; it also can bring fear or anxiety. In brief, it reminds us how fragile we are, and this gives us an opportunity to stay humble.
We need to bow to impermanence daily. When we dismiss that part of ourselves, our heart shuts down. From there, agitation and dissatisfaction prevail.
