Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva are three Gods well revered in Hinduism. They represent three universal functions existing in every aspect of our lives. These are the following: Creation, Sustenance, and Destruction. Nature for example embraces this principle with the rhythm of the seasons, and the changes between nights and days. Yet too often our mind struggles with it and dismisses it. Every time we don’t live in synchronicity with this Universal Truth, we suffer. The source of this suffering comes from an unnourished mind.
An unnourished mind is scattered, erratic, and unpredictable. It is the source of agitation, unnecessary acts of violence, and illnesses. An unnourished mind does not know how to experience peace and can’t be satisfied. In a culture where it looks like everything is available to us, we can easily run on empty because the mind has forgotten this Cosmic Truth: it can’t let go, it stays attached, clings, projects, gets bored, wants more, wants less, and the list goes on.
How do we nourish the mind? We don’t nourish the mind with alcohol, caffeine, sugar, or poor sleep, to name a few. We nourish the mind with balance at every level of our being. Then the mind can invite these three facets of life, and it will open the door to happiness and gratefulness.
