The quality of our decisions impacts every aspect of our life.
Decision-making asks for balance. When we decide too quickly, we often create unnecessary disruptions and spend time undoing or correcting our choices. When we hesitate too long, confusion sets in and worries or fears begin to take over.
The mind is skilled at placing conditions upon any decision-making process: I can’t decide because I don’t know how. I’m unsure of the steps. Yet true decision-making starts before the “how.” It must be clear, clean, and uncompromised. When the moment comes, saying yes matters more than understanding exactly how things will unfold.
When our yes is rooted in our whole being, the path reveals itself. Obstacles no longer appear as barriers, but as lessons woven into the experience of living. This is the practice of unconditional commitment.
The practice of meditation is one way to cultivate clarity, steadiness and commitment of the mind.. When I was younger, my meditation practice was rooted in dissociation. Over time, I learned that meditation is not about escaping life, but about grounding into it and learning not to be carried away by the shifting winds of the mind.
The next time you desire something to take shape in your life, look closely at the quality of your decision. Notice any hidden emotions, doubts, or fears embedded in your process.
